How to Size Tumbler Wraps (Straight vs Tapered)
Measure top and bottom diameters, build the right shape, and avoid rectangle-on-taper mistakes.
Straight tumblers can use a rectangle (π × diameter × printable height). Tapered tumblers need different top and bottom widths — a rectangle will skew logos and make seams fight you.
Measure once, print once
- Measure top and bottom diameters of the printable area (not the lid lip unless it prints).
- Measure printable height.
- Run the Tumbler Wrap Calculator.
- For tapered blanks, prefer the manufacturer’s trapezoid template over a guessed rectangle.
- Mirror artwork for most mug/tumbler presses unless your software already does.
Design tips that survive the press
- Keep critical text away from the vertical seam.
- Avoid tiny type that will swim on curved steel.
- Use the Aspect Ratio Calculator when you resize art into a new wrap height.
- For cylindrical mugs, use the Mug Wrap Size Calculator.
Proofing
Print a paper wrap first when you onboard a new blank. Tape it on, check seam alignment and logo lean, then commit film or sublimation paper.

FAQ
Why does my logo lean on the cup?
Usually a rectangular file on a tapered blank. Use a trapezoid template.
Do all 20 oz tumblers share one template?
No. Brands differ. Measure each SKU or use the blank maker’s file.
What DPI should wraps use?
Often 300 DPI at final wrap size. Confirm with your printer profile.
Seam overlap — how much?
Follow your press method; many shops use a small overlap or a defined safe gap.
