Print files need three zones: trim (final cut size), bleed (art that extends past trim), and safe area (where text must stay).

This calculator outputs document size and a safe box so gang sheets, stickers and flyers survive cutter variance.

How it works

Document width = trim width + (bleed × 2).
Safe width = trim width − (safe inset × 2).

Use the same logic for height.

Worked example

4 × 4 in sticker, 0.125 in bleed, 0.25 in safe inset.
Document: 4.25 × 4.25 in.
Safe text box: 3.5 × 3.5 in.

Common bleed values

Product Typical bleed
Stickers / labels 0.125 in
Business cards 0.125 in
Large format banners 0.25 in or more

Frequently asked questions

Does DTF need bleed?

Transfers are often cut to art bounds, but gang sheets still benefit from spacing and safe margins between jobs to avoid trimming into neighbouring prints.

Are Bleed & Safe Area Calculator results exact for production?

Treat them as planning estimates. Calibrate against your equipment, invoices and waste logs before you lock customer quotes.

Do my inputs leave my browser?

No. PressMath calculators run client-side. Only the contact form sends data you intentionally submit.

What should I do after I get a number?

Open a related calculator or guide on this page, sanity-check units, then verify on a sample before a full run.
